The objective of the competition for the Špitálka locality is to obtain a quality urban design proposal and to find a solution that will serve for further steps leading to an amendment to the Master Zoning Plan of the City of Brno, the locality regulation plan and future construction in this part of the city. The solution is supposed to have a unifying concept that naturally and functionally integrates the entire area into the city’s structure. Above all, it is important that the proposal respects the long-term sustainability of the site and its genius loci.

A three-month deadline is set for the submission of the competition proposals. The competition was announced on 30 October 2018 and the contestants can submit their designs by 21 January 2019 at the latest.

Competition designs should respect the intention of the city to gradually build a so-called smart neighbourhood. It will be an environmentally sustainable green locality, where modern technologies and approaches  serve to simplify the stay of residents as well as visitors and make it more pleasant. A place where natural resources are used wisely, renewable energy sources are used as much as possible and where community life and inclusion are developed. This locality should thus become a symbol of progress and modern technologies in the city of Brno.
