The transformation of Špitálka will not take place for some time, but in the meantime a temporary use of the area is being sought. This task has been taken on by students of Brno universities involved in the MUNISS university competition. The results of their efforts are shown in the exhibition "Get Špitálka Involved".

Students from the Brno University of Technology, Mendel University in Brno and Masaryk University had the task of figuring out how to manage the area of the future smart district until the construction starts. The individual ideas were then developed by a team of selected contestants. The elaborated proposals for the temporary use of Špitálka will be used by the city representatives who will gradually strive to implement them.

A forerunner associated with student designs is the exhibition "Get Špitálka Involved", which introduces the public to the smart district project and also shows other student projects from the MUNISS competition. The exhibition consists of five panels located in the centre of Brno on Moravské náměstí and in Kobližná, Nádražní, Benešova and Křenová streets. The panels stand in places that offer passers-by a unique view of the area of the future smart district, which is located close to the city centre. A special feature of the panels are the viewpoints, thanks to which Brno residents can see the dominant feature of Špitálka in the form of a cooling tower.

The exhibition will run from 30 September to 31 October 2022.

Since 2011, the MUNISS university competition has involved students from local universities in the development of the city. The competition operates on the principle of an 'urban laboratory', where the city creates a testing ground for new ideas, projects and activities that improve the quality of life of its residents. The whole principle is summarised on in.brno.cz.
